Lisbeth Nymand (DK)
Lisbeth Nymand is a Danish abstract painter working in acrylic and mixed media, known for her vibrant, high-energy colour universe. Her intuitive compositions balance spontaneity and structure, creating layered works that invite the viewer into a sensuous and open visual field. Rooted in emotion rather than narrative, her paintings leave space for personal interpretation and celebrate the joy — and struggle — of the creative process.
About
For Lisbeth Nymand (b. 1964), painting is a necessity rather than a choice. Educated as an art teacher at the Seminariet for Formgivning in 2005, she has taught visual art for many years while exhibiting widely at galleries, art associations, and art fairs across Denmark.
Her practice is predominantly abstract and driven by an intuitive working process where emotion, experimentation, and material exploration play central roles. She works with acrylic paint and mixed media, incorporating oil pastels, ink, charcoal, torn paper, plastic, and fabric into layered, collage-like compositions where nothing goes to waste.
Colour is at the core of her artistic language. Her luminous palette — often dominated by orange and yellow — has earned her work the nickname “sunshine paintings,” radiating optimism, vitality, and life-affirming energy.
Alongside her abstract works, Nymand is developing a new series inspired by her family’s historical roots in the Dutch settlements on Amager. Here, she explores traditional textile patterns and cultural symbolism, reinterpreted through her contemporary painterly style, connecting history, colour, and personal narrative in a modern visual expression.
