About
T. Anker (Tobias Anker Simonsen) is a Danish contemporary artist whose work bridges the worlds of language and visual art. Originally beginning his creative journey through writing poetry, Anker slowly translated his poetic sensibilities into visual form — and today his paintings and mixed media works often carry an intimate, lyrical quality rooted in that early literary practice.
Born and raised on the island of Vestfyn and now based in Svendborg, Anker struggled for many years to articulate his inner life through words alone. Poetry became his first medium — a way to express emotion, inner conflict, and the subtleties of lived experience. Over time, the language of his poems began to inform his visual work, with words and images merging into a singular artistic voice.
In his creative process, Anker moves fluidly between text and paint, combining the immediacy of poetic expression with the visceral energy of abstract composition. Many of his works include poetry written on the reverse side of the canvas, inviting deeper engagement with the themes of identity, emotion, and human experience that animate his practice. This interplay of word and form reflects Anker’s belief that art is not just seen but felt.
Anker’s work does not seek to define meaning outright; rather, it opens a space for reflection and personal interpretation. By anchoring his visual output in his linguistic roots, he creates pieces that are as much felt as they are seen — works that resonate with quiet emotional intensity and invite viewers into a thoughtful, contemplative experience.
